A sought-after edition of the classic biography of the great Turenne (Henri de La Tour d'Auvergne, Viscount of Turenne), one of the most illustrious captains in the history of France and Marshal General of the Camps and Armies of Louis XIV. Composed by Abbot François Raguenet, this military and political biography brilliantly traces the campaigns and the glory of the strategist. This edition is distinguished in particular by the presence of a remarkable folded plate out of text, engraved by Meunier, listing and illustrating in numbered medals Turenne's major feats and notable victories (from 1643 to 1675). Sturdy binding showing rubbing and wear from use at the headcaps, corners and joints; boards in well-preserved period calfskin. The spine gilt is somewhat faded but legible, the green title piece preserving its elegance. Interior fresh despite light scattered foxing, complete with its superb folded engraved plate of the medals in very good condition. Fine copy
