Magnificent oil on canvas by the French post-impressionist painter François FRANC (1926-1989), depicting a wintry, misty view of Dordrecht in the Netherlands, entitled: "Dordrecht in Winter, Holland", sold with its superb original gilded wooden frame. About the work: This painting captures with great poetry the timeless atmosphere of Dutch ports in winter. In the foreground, the dark, bare lines of a large tree structure the composition. In the background, emerging from subtle mist, one can glimpse the emblematic silhouette of Dordrecht's famous Grote Kerk (the Great Church). Brief bio: François Franc is a French modernist and post-impressionist painter, born in 1926 and died in 1989. After studying at the École des Beaux-Arts, he had the opportunity to collaborate and work in the early 1950s (between 1950 and 1952) with the master of French modern art, Fernand Léger. Although shaped by this rigorous training where structure and drawing are essential, François Franc quickly developed his own highly personal pictorial style. A great traveler, he devoted his career to immortalizing the poetry of European landscapes.
