François Claver (1918–1961) - "Place du Tertre en de Sacré-Cœur, Parijs"

A atmospheric, post-impressionist oil painting by the well-known French artist François (Fernand) Claver. The work depicts a lively and characteristic Paris street scene on the famous Place du Tertre in the Montmartre artist district. In the background rise the iconic domes of the Basilique du Sacré-Cœur. Claver brings the composition to life with his distinctive loose, impasto brushstrokes and a harmonious palette of warm autumnal and earthy tones. In the foreground are Parisian pedestrians and cozy terraces under colorful canopies and parasols. The painting is prominently and authentically signed in the bottom left with "F. Claver". The reverse shows the authentic structure of the linen canvas and the wooden battens. Condition: In good vintage condition with signs of aging inherent to the age. The canvas shows light craquelure. There are two small, light restoration spots/paint losses visible on the canvas (marked with red circles in the detail photos). The upper spot is in the dark tree trunk on the right; the lower spot is just above the terrace chairs near the bottom edge. The wooden frame shows slight discoloration and minimal wear, but is structurally sound. Dimensions Including frame: Height: 52 cm Width: 60 cm Depth: 4.5 cm. Painting (visible size/canvas): Height: 40 cm Width: 50 cm. Weight: 1.2 kg. The lot is packed with great care and sent by registered, insured shipment with track & trace.
