FINE (Oronce). Les Canons & documents tresamples, touchant l'usage & practique des communs Almanachz, que l'on nomme Ephemerides. Paris, De l'imprimerie de Regnaud Chaudière, 1551. In-8, stiff ivory vellum, double framed in cold on the boards (modern binding in the old taste). Second edition in French of this astrology manual by Oronce Fine (1494-1555), a scholar and astronomer considered to be the restorer of mathematics in Renaissance France. (Caillet, n°3945; Houzeau-Lancaster, n°14188.) It contains the Briesve & isagogique introduction, sur la judiciaire Astrologie: pour savoir prognostiquer des choses advenir, already found in the first edition published by Simon de Colines in 1543, and is augmented by a Traicté singulier d'Alcabice touchant les conjonctions des planetes en chascun des 12 signes. The last canons concern the periods to be observed in flebotomy or bleeding, to take medicine or to sow & cultivate trees & vines. Fine impression, decorated with a few woodcuts.
