Faun and Nymph Lovis Corinth

Lovis Corinth frequently drew on classical mythological subjects in his work, reinterpreting them through his distorted painterly perception. This late work, for instance, depicts the violent abduction of a nymph by a faun. The fleeting, sketch-like manner suggests a preliminary study, possibly for the series of eight lithographs on Greek mythology produced around the same time. | 1858 Tapiau/Ostpreußen - Zandvoort 1925 | Moderne Kunst | Arbeiten auf Papier | Nummer: 26x1910 | Provenance: Weinmüller/Neumeister, München 5.11.1965, Los 59; Privatsammlung, Hessen, bei Vorgenannter erworben; KARL&FABER, 10.6.2016, Los 425; Privatsammlung, Bayern, bei Vorgenannter erworben.
