Wooden mask attributed to the Fang, with an elongated face, narrow eye openings and a carved hairstyle. The face has a cream-colored paint with dark brown accents. Vertical incised lines run across the forehead and the nose. The back is hollowed out, and on the sides there are mounting holes. The design recalls the Ngil mask tradition of the Fang. Historical Ngil masks were worn by members of a secluded brotherhood during initiations, ceremonies and processions. The white color within this tradition was associated, among other things, with the spirits of ancestors. This note concerns the general mask tradition. The mask shows wear to the paint, scratches, localized discolorations and wear along the edges. On the back there are visible signs of workmanship. Material: painted wood. Height: approximately 35 cm.
