Stylized portrait of an Olmec (The Olmecs are an ancient pre-Columbian people of Mesoamerica whose culture today appears as a multiethnic and multilingual ensemble that extends from 2500 BC to 500 BC. It flourished as a hierarchical society from about 1500 BC to 500 BC or, according to Pool & Wendt, 2025, from about 1450 to 400 BC on the Gulf coast of Mexico, in the Basin of Mexico, and along the Pacific coast (States of Guerrero, Oaxaca and Chiapas). Between 2500 and 1500 BC these cultures are called “pre-Olmec.” The Olmec culture is the oldest known civilization of Mesoamerica). This painting invites viewers to reflect on what lies behind the appearances we present to the world. It will bring depth and conversation to any living space. Fabien Delaube is an award-winning painter whose works have been exhibited in France, Belgium, Germany, Canada and China. The French artist is fascinated by the symbol of the mask, the mask that everyone wears, as well as what they hide. The mirror-like effect conferred by Delaube’s pieces reinforces the true nature of his subjects. He often begins his compositions with acrylic, finishing with oil, patina and paste.
