We first encounter ornaments in the form of baskets and vases filled with flowers in the mid-18th century. As part of the so-called "Giardinetto fashion", the floral arrangements fitted particularly well into the playful and sensual era of the Rococo. Marie Antoinette picked flowers in her hameau in the garden of Versailles, shepherdesses in English landscape gardens were the ideal of the time. But also in the following centuries the pretty motif of the flower basket experienced renaissances again and again. Flower arrangements were particularly popular again in the 1920s and 1950s, but this classic motif endured for longer, as evidenced by the large brooch here, which we discovered in Monte Carlo. A work of high-carat yellow gold, it presents itself as a large bouquet-filled vase or a cornucopia. Colourful blooms of multicoloured gemstones, white diamonds and pearls are found here accompanied by golden leaves. We see citrines, rubies, emeralds, sapphires, amethysts and three blue glass pastes to complete the richness of colour. Thus, the jewel evokes a warm summer day and presents never wilting flowers of fine gemstones. A piece of jewellery with which you can conjure up a cheerful focal point on any outfit! An independent certificate has assessed the quality of the materials and comes with the brooch.
