Exquisite Antique Bangle With Diamonds In Silver & Gold, Circa 1890

The Belle Époque was an era dedicated entirely to the celebration of beauty. It was supported by an aspiring bourgeoisie that had achieved prosperity during the long period of peace. Studios and concert halls, department stores and salons experienced a previously unknown heyday. The joie de vivre of the time can also be seen in the fashion for jewellery: It became ever finer and whiter, ever more precious. Never before had so much jewellery been produced as in those years. Even precious diamonds could be ordered from catalogues aimed at the wealthy bourgeoisie. This bracelet also dates from this period. The silver display side is set with more than two carats of old-cut diamonds. Wide rows of staggered ornaments wrap around the arm: it looks as if the bangle is made of sparkling lace. The attached hoop, composed of three struts, is made of high-carat, slightly reddish gold. The hoop was created around 1890. The fact that its front is made of silver gives an indication of this; in later times, platinum would have been used. The cut of the diamonds and the design of the back, consisting of parallel bars, also point to the last years of the 19th century. We were able to acquire the ring in Paris. Thanks to the original safety chain, it can be worn carefree.
