Details about the specimen This specific specimen was found, according to the label, in 2009 in the region of Bohol Island (Central Philippines, Visayan Sea). It was recovered by a local fisherman from a depth of about 60 to 120 meters with a dragnet over soft substrate or rubble. At a size of 8.2 cm, it is described as a “nice large specimen.” Scientific name: Distorsio reticularis (Linnaeus, 1758). Features: The shells are spindle-shaped, inflated, and exhibit a coarse sculpture with axial and spiral ribs. Characteristic is the eponymous distorted or irregular aperture with strong teeth on the lips. Distribution: This species is widely distributed throughout the Indo-Pacific, from the Persian Gulf to Japan, the Philippines, and Australia.
