Descriptio Gilded repoussé copper. Measures 70 x 26 cm. 3.3 kg. Circa 1000-1200 AD. Brass alloy oil lamp on a tall, openwork stand; the base is shaped like an openwork domed foot with three separate legs and lateral projections, rising via a baluster-shaped stem to a long cylindrical body with openwork panels and a second baluster-shaped element. A drip tray with a relief gallery is surrounded by an engraved epigraphic band, interrupted by medallions. The lamp rests on a short pedestal with a rounded body and a projecting spout, the upper surface of which is engraved with panels of geometric and vegetal ornamentation. An oval handle rises behind the reservoir and is surmounted by an elephant-shaped finial, with additional handles applied around the shoulder, and a hinged lid with a small bird.
