Title: Boats in the Bay ㅤ School: Mediterranean Impressionist School (20th century) ㅤ Style: Marine Impressionism ㅤ Technique: Oil on canvas ㅤ Condition: Overall good state of conservation. Signed and dated 1918 in the lower right corner. ㅤ Circle and artistic influence: The work relates to the tradition of early 20th-century Mediterranean marine painting, influenced by impressionism and by the interest in representing the effects of light on water. The simplification of the vessels, color reflections, and the predominance of a luminous palette show affinity with port landscape artists active in Spain during the first decades of the century. ㅤ The composition depicts various sailing vessels moored in calm waters of a bay or harbor. In the center several traditional boats with sails unfurled cluster together, while other small boats occupy the sides and the foreground. In the distance the silhouette of the urban and port area is suggested by a succession of structures and masts. ㅤ The surface of the water takes on special prominence thanks to the use of fragmented brushstrokes in blues, whites, yellows, and orange reflections. The sails receive a warm illumination that contrasts with the blue-toned surroundings. The result conveys serenity and a clear sense of maritime atmosphere. ㅤ The work is presented in a gilded and patinated wooden frame, richly decorated with stylized vegetal motifs in relief and dark backgrounds, generating a striking decorative contrast around the maritime scene. ㅤ Observations: The work may incur damage during transport even with proper packaging.
