Escuela Impresionista Europea (XX) - Las lavanderas

Title: The Laundry Women School: European Impressionist (20th century) Style: Landscape impressionism / genre painting Technique: Oil on canvas Circle and artistic influence: Work linked to the tradition of European impressionist landscape painting and to late 19th-century and early 20th-century genre painting. The composition shows influences of naturalist landscape painting and rural impressionism, especially in the atmospheric treatment of the surroundings, reflections on the water, and the integration of small human figures within the landscape. The scene recalls the tradition of those European painters who found in rivers, bridges, roads, and everyday tasks motifs to depict rural life. Rural landscape featuring a single-arched stone bridge crossing horizontally the composition over a watercourse. In the background there is a traditional-style building set among mountains and abundant vegetation, while in the foreground several figures are seen washing clothes along the shore, the motif that gives the work its title. The composition is built with a predominantly earthy palette, with subdued greens, ochers and browns that create a serene and slightly autumnal atmosphere. The brushwork is loose and descriptive, paying particular attention to the vegetation, the bridge’s architecture, and the reflections of the landscape on the water. The small figures provide narrative and genre elements to a scene in which the landscape remains the main protagonist. The work bears the artist’s signature in the lower right corner, where a signature appears legible as “J. Bellida” or similar; its reading and exact attribution should be confirmed by direct examination. It is presented with a carved wooden frame in cream tone, with a wide stepped profile, enriched with ornamental gold applications of vegetal motifs and scrolls, especially visible in the corners and central points. It shows signs of use and small wear consistent with its age. Observations The work is in a state consistent with its age, and may show signs of use, wear, and small alterations typical of the passage of time. Exceptionally, shipping costs may be affected by a surcharge due to reasons such as being outside a continental territory, excessive dimensions or weight of the item.
