Doris Fliegner was a teacher in Salzgitter and Helmstedt and collected art throughout her life, with a focus on the Braunschweig region. Unlike Worpswede or Dachau, Braunschweig never had an artists’ colony; the art life was carried by the Kunstverein (founded 1832), the School of Arts and Crafts, from which today’s Academy of Fine Arts emerged, artist clubs such as the “Feuchte Pinsel” (1881), and bourgeois collectors – collectors like Doris Fliegner. Her collection includes groups of works by Braunschweig painters Karl Neuß and Hedwig Hornburg and works by the Salzgitter painter Gustav Hagemann. When and where she acquired this painting is not recorded. CONDITION Good condition. The paint layer is intact; the canvas on the reverse is flecked. Not cleaned, not restored. Please view the photos as part of the description. FRAME AND HANGING Gold-colored profiled frame with signs of age and small spots; the frame is part of the lot. Please check the mounting before hanging. SHIPPING Shipped framed, corners and surface protected, as bulky goods. Pickup in Helmstedt possible.
