Emmanuelle Pellet - Amoureux à l’Île Maurice : Flic-en-Flac

Emmanuelle Pellet - Lovers on the Island: Flic-en-Flac Acrylic painting Height: 18.7 cm, Width: 23.8 cm Unique piece, hand-painted, signed and numbered About the work: Our lovers on vacation in Mauritius continue their collection of picturesque village names. In Flic en Flac, discovering the local name triggers a joyful cavalcade: hands raised and joined, heads tilted back, they run along the beach, their flip-flops taking off with the momentum. He, bare-chested, brown curls, she, long blonde hair and a red bikini, seem to dance as much as run, at the edge of a turquoise lagoon where a small boat, a white sail and the bluish silhouette of a mountain stand out. Palm trees with hanging branches frame the scene. This beach race is also a homage to Picasso’s Bathers, whose momentum and monumental cheer she reinterprets here in a Mauritian resort. With her touch of pop surrealism, Emmanuelle Pellet blends quotation from art history with humor born from a simple village name. About the artist: Art historian by training, Emmanuelle Pellet studied at the École du Louvre and then at the Sorbonne, before passing the Agrégation in visual arts (3rd rank). After several years of teaching, she joined the Louvre Museum as head of educational outreach. Her career today feeds a personal body of work where painting technique dialogues with a deep cultural understanding of imagery and art history. Her creations have been exhibited in galleries in Paris, London, Singapore and Mauritius, and have been the subject of numerous publications. They are now in private collections in Europe, North America, Asia and the Indian Ocean.
