"Some asked me where the rubies grew, And nothing I did say; But with my finger pointed to The lips of Julia." No gemstone in history and the arts has been so intimately associated with the passion of love as the ruby. It was its color alone that drew Robert Herrick to compare it to the mouth of his beloved Juliet in the verse above. Oscar Wilde also saw in the red of the ruby in his fairy tale The Nightingale and the Rose the color of the heart itself, and William Blake spoke of the "rubies and pearls" of the loving gaze. This luxurious necklace picks up on this symbolism and presents a particularly beautiful representative of these gemstones in its permanently attached pendant. It is a natural, untreated ruby from Burma in an intense, pink-red color. The stone of excellent clarity and with some fine, natural inclusions weighs around 1.30 carats and is framed by a ring of white diamonds. A small flower, formed from two marquise-cut diamonds and other brilliant-cut diamonds, leads to the actual necklace. A total of 1.50 carats of very good quality diamonds have been used in this fine piece of jewellery, which came to us from the west of Germany.
