The 1920s and early 1930s—those wild, fleeting years between the two world wars—were a time of upheaval. The economy and politics lurching from one crisis to the next, yet at the same time society was reinventing itself—progressive, enamored with luxury, and full of joie de vivre: It was the heyday of black-and-white film, the era of nightclubs and cabarets, of modern artists like Otto Dix and Picasso, and of the Bauhaus. The jewellery created during that era was meant to reflect precisely this attitude toward life. It was modern and luxurious, emphasizing geometry, contrasts, and clean, crystalline designs. The pendant presented here is a typical piece of jewellery from those years. Its design is cool, clean, and sparkling. Its shape tapers downward, framing a diamond of approximately 0.40 ct with geometric arches. The “Old European Cut” stone is set in a platinum bezel and appears to float within the frame. Smaller diamonds, also set in platinum, adorn the symmetrically designed front of the pendant. The back of the piece of jewellery is crafted from yellow gold. The pendant was previously fitted with a new white gold eyelet—perhaps because the old one had become too thin from frequent wear. It’s clear that the pendant was cherished and will continue to be cherished. Its delicate sparkle and beautiful design make it simply irresistible. We discovered the pendant here in Berlin. The chain was custom-made for us out of platinum.
