The years between the wars, the years of Art Deco, were an exciting time. People in Europe and the USA were confronted with numerous radical innovations: Electric light became fully established, film created its stars and starlets, who were admired across national borders. The automobile took possession of the city and architecture suddenly took to the skies. While tensions on a social and political level grew ever stronger and pushed ever further up from the depths, the surface in films, magazines and on the boulevards of the capitals - still - shone in a glittering, seductive way. When the movie palaces, department stores and restaurants were brightly lit up at night and the headlights of the cars brought speed and movement to the cities - then you could imagine yourself in a new, better and modern world. The glamorous sparkle of this set consisting of a brooch and a pair of matching ear clips transports you back to this accelerated era. The pieces of jewellery shine in the typical combination of bright white gold and a multitude of white diamonds. The brooch features a transverse, stepped rectangle, a classic jewel shape of the era. The two ear clips echo its design. A total of 58 diamonds of different historical cuts with a total weight of 1.72 carats set the elegantly openworked surfaces. A special detail is the Austrian hallmark with the horse's head and the city letter "W" on the brooch. They show that the pieces of jewellery were created in Vienna, after 1925. Even the goldsmith who made them can still be named today, as he has also added his hallmark to the brooch. It comes from the workshop of Karl Krug, who was based at Kaiserstraße 69. A special, indeed wonderful piece of wearable jewellery history that came to us from the city of its origin.
