Rare original Elastolin / Lineol and others - German Military Bands - WWII etc. (see pictures) 16 x soldiers and more / rare figures Elastolin: mass figures were already produced around 1880 in Austria by the Vienna-based company Emil Pfeiffer, which became world-famous for the "loving and colorful painting" of its figures. Around 1900 production began in Germany. Similar to tin toy figures, it covered a wide thematic range, but primarily represented military toys. Accessories such as vehicles were usually made of tin, sometimes there were mixed forms, for example tin carriages with crews and horses made of mass material. Since other manufacturers often adhered to Hausser’s scale, the products were often intercompatible. Because many manufacturers did not only specialize in military toys but also depicted organizations and leadership personnel of the Nazi regime in their figures, a post-war restart of production in all Allied-occupied zones of Germany was difficult. Lineol to 1945 Lineol Aktiengesellschaft was founded in 1906 by Oskar Wilhelm Wiederholz in Brandenburg an der Havel. Since 1903 he developed the mass material needed, which, unlike the mass used by competitor Elastolin, also contains linseed oil and resin. Co-responsible for Lineol’s success was the Berlin artist Albert Caasmann, who from 1909 designed the wax templates for the figures. He became chief designer under Wiederholz in 1919 and was head of figure production until 1952. In the 1930s, LINEOL AG employed 300 to 400 workers. A high level of detail in the figures was responsible for the rapid success of the figures. The animals of the Berlin Zoo served as models for the wildlife figures. Two famous examples from the animal figure production are the hippopotamus Knautschke and the gorilla "Bobby," which Albert Caasmann immortalized in miniature. In addition to mass figures, Lineol produced high-quality tin toys. The figures were available in different scales/sizes (from 17 cm to 4 cm), with the 7.5 cm size becoming established over the years. Lineol’s mass figures are easily distinguished from Hausser’s figures (brand Elastolin) by a rectangular base. Very nice collection of detailed figures. A must for every collector.
