EGYPTIAN STEATITE SCARAB WITH CONCENTRIC CIRCLES IN SWIVEL GOLD RING

Middle Kingdom, ca. 2055 - 1790 BC. A steatite scarab with a convex back, the legs carved along the sides. The flat underside is engraved with six concentric ring-and-dot motifs arranged symmetrically around a central device, enclosed by an oval border. The scarab is mounted in a hallmarked 18K gold swivel ring with a rounded hoop, its terminals wrapped with tightly coiled gold wire and joined to a transverse pin supporting the stone.
