The half-naked female figure with red hair dominates the painting, while her arm reaches out to the second figure, whose torso is cut off, making it difficult to determine whether the nude figure with brown hair is male or female. As a protegé of Gustav Klimt, Schiele became known for his raw, psychological intensity and daring representations of the human form.
