DENMARK. Silver Portrait Medal, ND (1671). Copenhagen. Christian V. NGC AU-55.

DENMARK. Silver Portrait Medal, ND (1671). Copenhagen. Christian V. NGC AU-55. Galster-93; JS-486; Bruun-15424. Weight: 49 gms. Dimensions: 55 x 45 mm. Engraver: Jeremias Hercules (H). A very rare and charming, oval medal. Although undated, there is little doubt that this medal - bearing only the king's motto as its inscription -was struck to commemorate the anointing on 7 June 1671. The reverse is executed in a typical Baroque style, which flourished following the introduction of absolute monarchy in 1660, after which this grand style was utilized by the Crown to stage its absolute power, here demonstrated by God's angels placing the crown upon the king's monogram. Estimate: €2,000 - €3,000. Provenance: From the L.E. Bruun Collection. To view supplemental information and all items from the L.E. Bruun Collection, click here.
