Eminently Lustrous and One of Only Two Known DENMARK. 2 Gold Krone, 1629. Copenhagen Mint. Christian IV. NGC Unc Details--Obverse Graffiti. Fr-Unlisted; KM-111; Hede-28; Sieg-135; Harck-30.2.1; Schou-5; Bruun-5588. Weight: 5.97 gms. An eminently lustrous example with a slight gold toning near the edge. A small cross-shaped graffitto is noted in the obverse left field, as well as certain "irregularities" from the minting process, including a die break that might explain the extreme rarity of this date. Apart from one at the National Museum of Denmark, this seems to be the only example known. Struck by "Borgerskabets Mønt" (The Citizens' Mint) consisting of the mintmaster Matthias Clausen, Johan Brahm and the mayor of Copenhagen, Jacob Michelsen. After less than half a year, their right to produce coins was withdrawn. Estimate: €15,000 - €20,000. Provenance: From the L.E. Bruun Collection.
