Some time ago, we were fortunate enough to acquire a collection of tourmalines and beryls that had been lying dormant in a Stockholm gem dealer’s warehouse since the 1950s. Our goldsmiths designed a ring to showcase one of these gemstones, each accompanied by six diamonds. The ring is crafted from sustainable materials and diamonds that also carry their own history. In this way, historic materials are given a new lease on life. Most of the original gemstones have since been sold. However, we set out once again in search of more vibrant stones and discovered this natural tourmaline in a truly extraordinary colour at our gem dealer in Hamburg. It fits perfectly into the setting we designed. Tourmalines are among the most colorful gemstones of all. In addition to red rubellites, blue indigolites, and green verdelites, their color spectrum spans numerous intermediate shades. The tourmaline in this ring displays an unusual, slightly grayish olive green. At the edges, the colour glows brighter and fresher in places—almost lime to chartreuse—while the center of the stone displays brownish-pink to cognac-colored reflections, depending on the angle of the light. The subtle gray tone softens the green’s intensity and lends it a understated, distinctly elegant appearance. It is precisely this interplay of different nuances that gives the stone its special charm. We love this ring because it’s unpretentious and lets the tourmaline’s unusual play of colours take center stage. Six diamonds accompany the stone, adding bright accents without stealing the show. The result is a ring whose clean lines are entirely defined by the vibrant colour of its gemstone. Which of these sparkling colours do you like best?
