Delicate Pendant Brooch with Amethyst & Pearls in Gold, Great Britain

Every country and every era has its own fashions, which sometimes differ more, sometimes less from those of other countries and eras. In Great Britain, perhaps favored by its insularity, we find several quite unique fashions in the 19th century that we cannot observe in mainland Europe. One of these passions was the love of jewellery made of warm, shining yellow gold, set with countless small pearls and colored stones - a very beautiful example of this can be seen here. An openwork flower made of bent gold wire is set with pearls and two violet amethysts. With its airy openwork shape, the small leaf ornaments and its colourfulness, this piece of jewellery corresponds exactly to the taste of the time. It can be worn as a brooch and, thanks to a loop, also as a pendant. Such a dual function was quite common in the c. 1900s, as it promised that the investment in a special piece would pay off through its versatility. We found this wonderfully preserved piece of jewellery in London.
