An exceptionally beautiful, two-piece ensemble of noble solid wood is for sale, consisting of an oval Presentation Tray (Hand-Tray) and a matching round lidded box. Both pieces originate from the early 20th century and can be stylistically and technically perfectly classified in the Edwardian era (Prince Edward’s time, around 1901–1910) / late Art Nouveau. The set is distinguished by the use of high-quality, heavy walnut wood, known for its expressive, lively grain and excellent durability. • The tray: The surrounding rim is masterfully crafted by hand and decorated with a pierced, plastically carved grapevine and leaf motif. The two integrated carrying handles are elegantly shaped. On the underside there are two classic rabbet boards, secured with period-typical original slotted screws. These boards have successfully prevented warping of the wood for over a century. • The lidded box: The box reveals a different, fascinating facet of wood art. It features geometric chip carving and a central rosette on the lid. A special eye-catcher is the delicately worked, serrated upper edge of the box. The inner surfaces and the bottom are smoothly lathed, beautifully showcasing the golden-brown walnut grain. In very good antique condition. For genuine solid-wood objects that are well over 100 years old, the preservation state is absolutely exceptional: • The tray is completely flat (not warped) and the wood shows no cracks. • No flaws or breaks in the delicate carvings (all leaves and the fine serrations on the box are intact). • No woodworm infestation. • Beautiful, authentic patina with a silky sheen.
