Daniell (William) and Thomas Daniell Landscape with the house of Samuel Davis (1760–1819), Bhagalpur, pencil, on laid paper with countermark 'IV', inscribed in ink verso 'No. 131 [struck through] Davis house Bhagalpore', 235 x 375 mm (9 1/4 x 14 3/4 in), sheet laid onto wove paper support with ruled grey ink borderline, exposure lines from previous mount and associated minor toning, light surface dirt, unframed, [circa 1789-1790] Provenance: Private collection, UK *** Between the years of 1789 and 1790, the Daniell's visited Bhagalpur, where they stayed with their good friend, Samuel Davis.
