Following the first edition printed in 1698, it contains his argument in favor of extra-terrestrial life and was based on the Copernican theory of the universe. In 1659 Huygens had published his Systema Saturnium , the first full announcement of his discovery of the ring and satellites of Saturn. Waller 12060; Wellcome III, p.324. Quarto (210 x 165mm). Woodcut vignette on title, 6 folding engraved plates numbered 1-5 with plate 4 repeated. (Browned, some scattered stains and spotting, some leaves shorter at bottom margin, O2 with clean tear without loss, S1 repaired at inner margin and S2-S3 loose.)
