Conde Hermanos 1989 Flamenco Guitar A beautiful Conde Hermanos Flamenco Guitar from 1989, built during a highly regarded period of the legendary Madrid workshop and offering everything we love about the classic Conde flamenco sound. The guitar is traditionally constructed with a spruce top and cypress back and sides – the classic combination for a Flamenca Blanca. With a 655 mm scale length and 52 mm nut width, it has wonderfully familiar Spanish dimensions and feels immediately comfortable in the hands. This particular guitar spent many years as part of a collection and was hardly played at all. As a result, it remains in remarkably good condition for an instrument approaching 40 years of age. A few years ago, the previous owner decided to have the finish refreshed. The work was carried out professionally and to a very high standard, giving the guitar its beautifully preserved appearance today. Playability is another real highlight. The guitar has a wonderfully low traditional flamenco setup, measuring approximately 2.7 mm on the low E and only 2.1 mm on the high e at the 12th fret. It feels fast and effortless under the fingers – ideal for quick picado, powerful rasgueados and the dynamic right-hand techniques that demand an immediate response from the instrument. But ultimately, a great Conde is all about the sound. And this Conde Hermanos 1989 Flamenco Guitar sounds fantastic. It is powerful, dry and incredibly direct, with the quick attack and explosive response that made these Madrid guitars so desirable among flamenco players. The trebles have plenty of presence and cut, while the basses provide a strong foundation without taking away from the guitar's characteristic dryness and clarity. Played lightly, the guitar responds immediately and offers plenty of nuance. Push it harder and it comes alive with that aggressive, percussive character we associate with a really good traditional Conde. Combined with its remarkably preserved condition and excellent low action, this is much more than an interesting vintage collector's piece. It is a serious flamenco guitar made to be played.
