Wear and rubbing on the boards and the spine. Light scattered browning Original edition with a frontispiece portrait of Mme de Sabran. First edition of this correspondence collected and published by E. de Magnieu and Henri Prat. Correspondence between the Countess of Sabran (1749-1827) and the Chevalier de Boufflers (1738-1815). A brilliant and charming man of letters, he was a member of the Knights of Malta. They become lovers in May 1781. While he is staying in Senegal, the Countess of Sabran maintains a correspondence with Boufflers that provides abundant information, notably about life in Senegal in the 18th century and the organization of the colony.
