Larousse Monthly Illustrated - Complete Series 1907-1928 (7 Volumes) Description : Superb historical set of the Larousse Monthly Illustrated (Universal Encyclopedic Review), edited under the direction of Claude Augé. This lot comprises the first complete and homogeneous series of 7 large main volumes covering the pivotal period from 1907 to 1928, as well as 1 volume of supplement/tables. • Fine art binding of the period: Publisher’s edition of great elegance in brown half-sheepskin. The spines are adorned with superb relief floral motifs in pure Art Nouveau style (the famous Larousse dandelion branches) with title and date pieces in gold. Very beautiful visual uniformity and stunning presence on the shelf. • Rich iconography: A true gold mine of visual and documentary material on the early 20th century and the interwar period. The work is abundantly illustrated with innumerable engravings and geographical maps. It notably contains sumptuous chromolithograph plates on double-page color pages depicting natural history, signed by renowned masters of the genre such as Adolphe Millot (notably the famous plate “Enemies of the Vine,” with remarkably fresh colors). • Historical completeness: The volumes properly integrate the valuable monthly bulletins and supplements from the era (such as historical chronicles and current events), a rare detail highly sought after by collectors and purists.
