Christopher Henry - Insolent Par Nature n°12

Made from a steel beam, carefully transformed into a singular piece of art. Each copy is a unique work. Entirely protected by a satin varnish, guaranteeing a durable finish. This creation fuses recycling with artistic expression, perfect for adding a touch of originality to your interior or completing an art collection. The Pillars: I chose to work on I-beams (IPN), those metal beams that arise from our urban environment—raw elements that make up and support the buildings of our cities. Usually hidden behind walls, they nevertheless contribute to the very structure of our surroundings. They bear, support, and enable constructions to stand. By using a real beam as a support, I bring into my work a piece of city, a fragment of architecture and urbanism. An industrial element, marked by its history and its primary function, which I repurpose to give it a new artistic dimension. This choice naturally suited my portraits of women. Because, just as these beams are the invisible pillars of our buildings, we all have in our lives a woman who represents a pillar. A mother, a grandmother, a sister, a partner, a friend… a woman who sustains, accompanies, protects, or simply helps us to keep standing. Through this encounter between raw steel, the urban universe, and the feminine portrait, I create a parallel between the structure that supports our cities and these women who sustain our lives. Each IPN thus becomes much more than a simple support. It becomes a fragment of urbanism transformed into a work of art, bearing the face and the symbolic story of a woman. Because our cities have their pillars. And in our lives too, there are women who allow us to stand tall. Emerging from graffiti culture, which he discovered in his teens, he has developed for more than twenty years a personal, instinctive and identifiable universe where painting, photography, screen printing, collage and various techniques from urban art meet. His work draws energy from the street, but quickly frees itself from traditional graffiti codes to explore a broader, more personal artistic practice. Christopher Henry develops a visual language where feminine portraits, colors, typography, symbols, references to popular culture and spontaneous graphic interventions mingle. His oeuvre moves between technical mastery and freedom of gesture, between contemporary aesthetics and urban influences. Over the years, his work has been shown in France and internationally, notably in Paris, Hong Kong, Bratislava, Eindhoven and Miami. An artist with multiple practices, he works on canvases as well as on unexpected supports: monumental walls, objects, skateboards, car bodies or artistic installations. The feminine figure occupies a central place in his work. Through his portraits and various series, Christopher Henry seeks to reveal the strength, sensuality, fragility and singularity of his subjects. His universe, sometimes provocative, always assumed, questions the gaze cast on the body, femininity and the codes of contemporary society. Creator of the concept DollArt Erotic, he continues today a singular artistic research, blending erotism, pop culture, street art and screen printing, while developing numerous participatory and social projects. For over seventeen years, he has also used art as a tool of transmission, expression and encounter through workshops and mural projects carried out with diverse audiences. Through a free and plural work, Christopher Henry asserts a borderless artistic vision, where each support becomes a field of expression and where urban art dialogues with more intimate, popular and contemporary universes.
