ear-Mint Crown Pattern from the Tientsin Mint CHINA. Silver Dollar Pattern, CD (1907). Tientsin Mint. Kuang-hsu (Guangxu). PCGS AU-55. L&M-20; K-212; WS-0025; Wenchao-89 (rarity: ★★). An intriguing and fairly RARE pattern issue, this crown concept presents the "Tai Ch'ing"-style dragon motif that would be employed for the eventual Dollars the following year, though with the reverse design as featured here abandoned. Just the slightest degree of gentle rub across the higher points is observed, with a burnished amber-gray nature to the coloring evident throughout. A wholesome and wholly original example of the type that should appeal to a wide range of collectors. This Dollar is a representative of the first set of "Tai Ch'ing Ti Kuo" silver coinage. These issues--struck in limited quantities with a familiar obverse design based upon the imperial copper issues beginning in 1906--were placed into circulation and, in less than a year, were replaced by the 1908 issues.
