CHINA--REPUBLIC. Central Bank of China. 100 Dollars, 1923. P-179b. S/M#C305-17b. PMG Very Fine 25. Hunan-Kiangsi-Kwangsi. Wonderful opportunity to obtain the monster 100 Dollar denomination from the Northern Expedition. As detailed in the description for the 10 Dollars, this overprint was made in advance of the Northern Expedition so that they could be released immediately in the captured areas to stabilise the local economy. According to the figures, a total of 2 million yuan was issued for the entire series, with the 100 Dollar denomination accounting for 10% of that total. If this is correct, only 2000 notes were issued, and due to their high recall rate, very few have survived into modern times. At the time of cataloguing, only four examples had been graded by PMG, and this note is tied with one other in SECOND HIGHEST GRADE. Extremely rare. PMG Comments "Ink Lightened." Estimate: $4,000 - $7,000. Provenance: From the Renaissance Collection of Central Bank of China.
