Scintillating "Flying Dragon" Dollar of the Hung-hsien Era CHINA. Dollar, ND (1916). Tientsin Mint. Hung-hsien (Hongxian [Yuan Shih-kai]). PCGS MS-61. L&M-942; K-663; KM-Y-332; WS-0097. Retaining the obverse type that sees republican-era figure Yuan Shih-kai in a tall, plumed shako, this issue from two years later celebrates his brief and ill-fated attempts at an imperial revival with himself styled as the Hung-hsign emperor. Though it was short-lived, the coinage from the period like this crown remains exceptionally popular, with the reverse featuring an elegant Ch'ing-style imperial dragon flying left. Extremely dazzling and brilliant, with exceptional radiance across both sides along with some appealing color. As such, a stunning RARITY that will assuredly entice. Estimate: $40,000 - $60,000.
