Chimay Our history began in 1850 when the priest of Virelles, Father Jean-Baptiste Jourdain, and the Prince of Chimay, Joseph de Riquet de Caraman, entrusted a small group of monks from Westvleteren with a mission: to create a settlement on the high plateau of Scoutmont with the aim, both then and now, to "support the region of Chimay".
