CHARLES JOSEPH. The Dispersion of the Men at Babel Considered and the Principal Cause of it Inquired Into. Ink manuscript throughout in a mid 18th century hand, apparently the author`s own copy in preparation for the 2nd edition. 218pp transcription of the original work (published 1755) followed by extensive drafts, amendments, inserts & notes in preparation for the 1769 2nd edition incl. "Jacob`s Prophecy Concerning Judah", "Noah`s Prophecy", "The Psalms", "Sybylline Oracles" (the title of the 2nd ed. states that it is "With new Observations on the Sybylline Writings"), etc, two of these dated 1768 & 1769. An insight into the author`s mind as he prepared this edition. The penultimate leaf notes some details re its publishing - alternative cost of sheets & reams of paper & advertisements (£45.13/- or £35.3/6-), time to the press, publisher & stationer etc. Small quarto. C1768/1769. Joseph Charles was vicar of Wighton in Norfolk, it is noted on the front paste-down that "This book was bought at Mr (Rev.) Brown`s auction at Fulmerstone in Norfolk in the year 1811".
