Central European School, circa 1600 and later Portrait of a nobleman

oil on panel, 46 x 33cm; framed 60 x 46.5cm, Amusingly, the gentleman in this painting is undoubtedly the same as found in a portrait which sold at Pforzheim, Kiefer, 11 February 2026, lot 3591. That painting, attributed to Alonso Sánchez Coello (1531-1588) and showing the exact same facial features as the man in this picture, shows that this example must have been repainted at a later date to represent Francis Bacon in his Chancellor's robes.
