CC-33. Continental Currency. May 9, 1776. $3. PCGS Currency Superb

An Exceptional $3 Continental CC-33. Continental Currency. May 9, 1776. $3. PCGS Currency Superb Gem New 67 PPQ. No. 88013. Preserved in a state of preservation that speaks to the very day this note was printed roughly 250 years ago. Bidders should rightly be taken aback by the assigned grade of Superb Gem New 67 PPQ applied by the likes of PCGS Currency which speaks to a degree of technical sophistication that utterly distinguishes both the penned elements and plate impression. Here the circular vignette of an eagle and heron locked in mortal combat radiates with color and detail that amplifies the Latin phrase "EXITUS IN DUBIO EST" which roughly translates to "The Outcome is in Doubt" per Newman. Held together with the exceptionally detailed skeletonized leaf imprint on the back which speaks to the prowess of contemporary anti-counterfeiting methods pioneered by Franklin, it takes little to figure that bidders have here a truly exceptional opportunity that will again readily demonstrate the popularity of high-grade Continentals that represent a small cadre of exceptional survivors. Estimate: $6,000 - $8,000.
