Flora svecica, exhibens plantas per regnum Sveciae crescentes, systematice cum differentiis specierum, synonymis autorum, nominibus incolarum, usu oeconomorum, officinalibus pharmacopaeorum. Editio secunda aucta et emendata. Stockholm, Lars Salvius, 1755. 8vo. 195 x 120 mm. (4), XXXII, 464, (30) pp. 1 folding engraved plate. Title with the handwritten monogram of Pehr Kalm (has been faintly overwritten), above the text "Mig förärat of upläggaren Secretairen Herr Lars Salvius" (=given to me by the editior... ), also with signatures of G(abriel) Castrén and one other. Very worn full leather binding, damages to joint and lower part of spine, upper board partly loose, lower partly broken, spine in compartments and with red title label, faded and with damages, stained. Notes to first free endpaper "Defecter på Lapska wäxter". Lacking last endpaper. Dampstain from page 440 - the end, some spotting and staining. Notes to text, the letter "F" written to the margin of many plants, Soulsby 409. Hulth 44. Second original edition, lists 1296 plants, 56 more than in the first edition. Pehr Kalm (1716–1779), distinguished Swedish-Finnish naturalist and economist. Recognized as one of Carl Linnaeus’s foremost 'apostles,' Kalm is best remembered for his pioneering expedition to North America. Gabriel Castrén (1716–1779) was a Finnish clergyman and scholar who lived during the same period as Pehr Kalm. He and Kalm were contemporaries within the intellectual circles of the Swedish Empire.
