The tale recounts in the time of buccaneers around 1670 the glorious and wild adventures of Thomas l’Agnelet, born in Saint-Malo and captain of the Belle-Hermine. Fights, plunder, orgies, and passionate love with the beautiful Andalusian Juana, flow through this story written by a marine academican. Superbly illustrated by Guy Arnoux (1886 - 1951) French artist. His stroke is instantly recognizable: a black outline and broad flat areas, often created with stencil. He represents a new popular art, at once modern and traditional. It is perhaps the last great French pictorial edition. A very beautiful, relatively rare set.
