Byzantine Bronze Thimble - 18 mm (No reserve price)

Byzantine Thimble. Ca. 600–850 AD. Bronze, 18 mm, 3.7 g. Byzantine thimbles were practical tools of textile production, protecting the finger while pushing fine needles through cloth. Copper-alloy examples appear securely in Mediterranean contexts from the late 6th century onward, perhaps connected with increasingly sophisticated textile and silk production. Their punched surfaces provided grip and offer a direct glimpse into everyday craft and domestic life in the Byzantine world. Provenance: Bought in 2024 at a German auction house; previously in a private collection. Purchase invoice on file.
