Todas las subastas / Arte Antiguo / Byzantine Bronze Coin pendant - Jesus Christ, King of Kings (No reserve price)

Encapsulated silver-plated metal pendant, for better preservation, with a Class A3 follis minted between 976–1030 AD during the reigns of Basil II and Constantine VIII. It is on a modern 925 silver cord-style chain. In this era, the emperors decided to remove their portraits from coins to place the effigy of Jesus Christ as a symbol of the supreme sovereign of the Byzantine Empire, thus reflecting the idea that the earthly emperor ruled only by mandate and divine grace. On the obverse, Jesus Christ appears with a cruciform halo and holding the Book of the Gospels. On the reverse, the inscription "Jesus Christ, King of Kings". It ships with a legal declaration sheet. Customs duties outside the EU will be borne by the auction winner.
