Original Burmese amber from Myanmar dating from the Cretaceous period with an age of about 99 million years. The piece contains a remarkable fossil Diptera, notable for its exceptionally large, leaf-shaped antennae. The two prominent antennae show a fine surface structure and are clearly visible on the head. Such specialized antennae can occur in male Diptera and are used, among other things, for perceiving fragrances. For this specimen, a male individual is therefore suspected. A precise assignment to a family has not yet been secured. In addition to the characteristic antennae, the transparent wings with their fine venation, the segmented body, and several extraordinarily long and slender legs are preserved. Other natural organic components and small gas bubbles are enclosed in the stone.
