A remarkable collection of six polished Burmese amber specimens preserving a diverse variety of fossil insects. The highlight of the collection is a large cockroach-like insect with an elongated body, wings and appendages visible along the edge of one specimen. Other pieces contain a broad-winged insect, several flies, beetle-like specimens and groups of smaller insects. Details such as wings, segmented bodies, legs and antennae can be observed, particularly under magnification. The specimens display attractive shades ranging from pale yellow to deep golden amber. Each piece has been individually shaped and polished to enhance its transparency and reveal the inclusions from different angles. Burmese amber, also known as Burmite, originates from northern Myanmar and dates to the mid-Cretaceous period, approximately 99 million years ago. The collection offers a fascinating representation of the biodiversity found within an ancient forest ecosystem. Natural botanical remains, flow lines, suspended particles, air bubbles, internal fissures and minor surface irregularities may be present and are characteristic of fossil amber. The measuring tape shown in the photographs provides an indication of scale. The sale includes all six specimens pictured.
