Buddha China, Tang Dynasty (618-907)

Descriptio Buddha seated in meditation on a lotus-shaped base, with legs crossed in the “padmasana” posture. Both hands are in ritual gestures, one resting on the knee and the other on the right foot, evoking the attitude of meditation or the fulfillment of a wish. He wears a wide monastic robe, an “Uttarasangha,” with rounded and pronounced folds, characteristic of religious sculpture. The surface has a homogeneous, aged patina, with traces of oxidation and inclusions related to long exposure in an archaeological context. The head and part of the right arm are missing, although the iconography allows identification of a Buddha image linked to Mahayana Buddhism, of the type of sculpture found in caves or sanctuaries along the Silk Roads. White marble or alabaster. China, Tang Dynasty (618-907). 31 x 25 cm. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipping: no import duties apply within the EU. An export permit from the country of origin may be required.
