BOŠTIK (Václav) (1913–2005). - Lot 40

BOŠTIK (Václav) (1913–2005). Prague, Prague City Gallery, Old Town Hall, March 30–May 14, 1989. An important catalog published on the occasion of the retrospective exhibition dedicated to Václav Boštík, one of the leading figures of 20th-century Czech abstraction. After early works influenced by Cubism and the experiments of the Prague avant-garde, Boštík developed a deeply spiritual body of work in which light, space, and matter became the true subjects of his painting. The book traces the evolution of his artistic language from the symbolic compositions of the 1950s to the vast, luminous, and meditative surfaces that established his international reputation. It also highlights his monumental work for the Pinkas Synagogue in Prague, a memorial dedicated to the Jewish victims of Nazism, which stands as a vital testament to his artistic and commemorative commitment. Richly illustrated, this catalog is one of the definitive publications dedicated to the artist. Large quarto, illustrated paperback. Text in Czech.
