**Antique Austrian Owl Bookends – Circa 1920–1940 – Hand-Painted and Varnished – Decorative Pair** Some objects instantly give a room personality. These charming owl bookends are just such a pair: expressive, colourful and practical, with a distinctive presence that beautifully complements your favourite books. Their large, striking eyes, dark beaks and hand-painted feather details give each owl its own character. Warm shades of ochre, brown and cream contrast beautifully with the dark supports and bases. The varnished finish adds an attractive sheen, highlighting the lively painted details. Originating from **Austria and dating to circa 1920–1940**, both bookends are **hand-painted and varnished** and remain in **very good condition**. Their combination of decorative animal figures and functional design makes them appealing to collectors and anyone who appreciates interiors with character. **Charming Companions for Your Books** The owl is traditionally associated with wisdom and knowledge, making it a fitting guardian of a treasured book collection. This pair neatly frames a row of books while creating an eye-catching display. Position the flat supporting surfaces against the outer covers of the first and last books. Four or five books make an attractive arrangement — more books can, of course, be placed between them. Consider nature books, classic literature or favourite reference volumes. In a traditional library, they look particularly inviting alongside old book bindings and wooden furniture. In a bright, contemporary interior, their warm colours provide a distinctive decorative accent. They also make an attractive feature on a desk, console table or open bookshelf. **For Collectors and Enthusiasts** These bookends combine the appeal of animal sculptures with the practicality of a decorative household accessory. They would make a delightful addition to an owl collection, a thoughtful gift for a book lover or a charming purchase for someone who enjoys surrounding themselves with objects that have a history. Their expressive design rewards a closer look, from the prominent eyes and painted plumage to the contrasting dark bases. A pair that supports your books while enriching your interior. **Object Details** - **Item:** a pair of owl bookends. - **Origin:** Austria. - **Period:** circa 1920–1940. - **Finish:** hand-painted and varnished. - **Colours:** ochre, brown, cream and black, with striking orange-yellow eyes. - **Condition:** very good. -** Size** 11 x 8 x 5 cm **Photographs Form Part of the Description** The lifestyle images are provided for illustration and show possible display settings in different interiors.
