Wenceslaus II (1278–1305) - Prague Groschen - Kutná Hora - Silver For sale is a remarkably well-preserved medieval Prague Groschen of Wenceslaus II, King of Bohemia, struck at Kutná Hora between 1300 and 1305. Introduced during the monetary reform of Wenceslaus II in 1300, the Prague Groschen became one of the most important silver coins of medieval Central Europe. The obverse shows the Bohemian crown within the double legend: WENCEZLAVS SECVNDVS / DEI GRATIA REX BOEMIE The reverse depicts the crowned, double-tailed Bohemian lion with the legend: GROSSI PRAGENSES The state of preservation is particularly noteworthy. For a circulating silver coin more than 700 years old, the design remains unusually complete and clearly defined. (See photographs.) Overall, this is a particularly attractive and unusually well-preserved example, showing a remarkable degree of detail and completeness for this medieval coin type. Kingdom: Bohemia Ruler: Wenceslaus II (1278–1305) Denomination: Prague Groschen Date: 1300–1305 Mint: Kutná Hora (Kuttenberg) Material: Silver Diameter: approx. 26 mm Technique: Hammered A particularly well-preserved and visually impressive example of this important medieval silver coin.
