Björn Hausschild (1959) - Offenbarung 21

Björn Hauschild – Revelation 21 Monumental triptych from 1986 – the original, hand-written by the artist An extraordinary and in this form unique work for collectors of contemporary art, sacred art, and demanding abstract painting. For sale is an impressive, three-part original work by the German artist Björn Hauschild, created in 1986. The triptych is dedicated to the Revelation of John, chapter 21, verses 1 and 3–4, and treats one of the most powerful motifs of the New Testament: the new heaven and the new earth, the end of death, suffering, lament, and pain. Hauschild does not translate this notion illustratively, but into a powerful abstract visual language of light, depth, rupturing surfaces, and overlapped layers of color. The three panels form a dramatic unit. Dark, almost archaic structures meet bright earth and sky tones, deep blue, black, ochre, and white. Cracks, stratifications, traces and relief-like areas give the surfaces an almost geological effect. The work changes with distance and light, continually renewing itself. The extraordinary highlight is on the back side The triptych possesses an unusually extensive, hand-written documentation by the artist. On the back are: B. Hauschild 86 the hand-written dating to 1986 the Bible verse Revelation 21, 1 and 3–4 a longer hand-written text by the artist on the theme of the work as well as the original drawing for the arrangement of the three panels as Part I, Part II and Part III, including the intended distances between the individual images. Thus not only the authorship is documented. The artist has noted on the back how this work is intended to be thought, read, and presented. This extraordinary combination of painting, theological statement, artist’s handwriting, and original mounting instructions gives the triptych a special documentary character. It is, in a sense, not just an image, but at the same time his own artistic document. A work with spiritual depth The verses from Revelation 21 belong to the strongest images of hope in Christian tradition. A new heaven. A new earth. God among the people. No more tears. No death. No sorrow and no pain. Hauschild translates this thought into a world of images that seems to hover between destruction and new beginning, darkness and light, matter and transcendence. For this reason, this triptych is not only suitable for a demanding private collection, but also excellently suited for a special architectural or sacred space, a chapel, congregation, foundation, law practice, clinic, or representative collection.
